well done

It's about time for some good news. Keitaro needs it. For the past two weeks, he's been nonstop working and studying and he's rarely at home. The Hinata inn was also very quiet and the air was also stiff. It looked like Keitaro was about to collapse from fatigue. Which would produce a domino effect, because he needs his act together for his exams. Exams are coming up! I've been studying fine, but you know Keitaro-- whenever there's a problem that concerns himself and his friends, his focus is off. Anyone's focus would be off. He's dealing with a lot of problems.

However...

Everything's changed now! March 21 is the day when the rent increase will take effect. Today's the 19th, and while I was in my room studying, I heard someone running in the hallway.

"Narusegawa! Come quick! Go to the living room! I have an announcement to make!"

"Keitaro- wait--" he just left afterwards. I suppose I could tell everybody to gather in the living room as well.

Everyone's in the living room waiting for Keitaro. Haruka-san and Kentaro-kun were still wearing their work aprons. Kitsune too. Kana-chan was leaning on the wall. Shinobu-chan was quiet and seated in one corner. Everybody's quiet and the heavy air felt heavier. There's this overflowing aura of anticipation in the living room. KEITARO! WHERE ARE YOU?!

"EVERYONE!" Keitaro finally walks in waving a letter. "THE RENT WILL NOT INCREASE!"

After a few seconds of silence... the whole room erupted! It was loud. I looked at Shinobu-chan and she was crying. I felt her joy and I rubbed her back. She really was relieved and overjoyed about the news. This is the good news that we're waiting for! I, for one, am relieved and ecstatic that this whole mess is finally over. It's already past 12am and I can still hear their karaoke downstairs. This night is still alive. I guess they'll sing their hearts out throughout the night.

when will this be fixed?

I've never seen Keitaro this stressed before. It pains me when he denies that he's having a hard time. Clearly, he is. But whenever he sees anyone, he quickly changes his facial expression. He smiles. He pretends everything's okay. It pains me and it annoys me. Despite his effort, I can see the clearest sign of pain behind his fabricated smile.

I pretend to smile at him, knowing at the back of my mind that he's burdened with a big dilemma. I couldn't concentrate in class. And if I can't, I could only imagine his concentration in school. How does he sleep?

As for the rent increase, I'm somewhat affected, but I can still pay for it. That would also mean a small saving for me. I'm going to have to search for a part-time job. I don't need to ask mom or dad any money. It'll just be for pocket money. Not to mention, my birthday's coming up. I just slapped my forehead! My birthday's almost here! And this is what's currently happening around me! I'ts sad. I don't want my birthday to be problem-ridden. And I want to celebrate it with everybody.

Profile: Naru Narusegawa

Naru Narusegawa (Narusegawa Naru) is a 17-year old student at Keitaro's cram school with an extremely fiery temper. Naru is a boarder at the Hinata House, in Room 304.

Of all the girls in the Hinata House, Keitaro manages to annoy her the most, usually by accidentally grabbing her in unfortunate places or walking in on her while she is naked. Naru's appearance is based Beautiful Nerd archetype in dating sim games, with the twist she is actually very cantankerous.

Despite her temper and frequent violence toward Keitaro, she develops strong feelings for him, though she has great difficulty in admitting her feelings even to herself. She is prone to extremely strong jealous reactions whenever Keitaro appears to be getting too close (physically or emotionally) to other girls.

Despite the fact that she was only two years old at the time, she and Keitaro promised to go to Tokyo University together, though being two years old she didn't remember for quite a while (this is why Mutsumi made the same promise with her - see Mutsumi's entry).

Naru is highly intelligent; at the start of the series, she is #1 in Japan on the practice entrance exams. Just a few years earlier, however, she was in almost exactly the same position Keitaro was in - horrible grades and no hope of getting into Tokyo U. She was able to overcome her problems by studying with a Tokyo University student, Noriyasu Seta, whom she developed a serious crush on.

Naru had made a promise three times to get into Tokyo University. First with Keitaro, then with Mutsumi and finally with Seta when he was tutoring her.

She owns a Liddo-kun doll which a friend (Mutsumi Otohime) gave her when she was young.

Narusegawa Naru is studying to get into Tokyo Daigaku (Tokyo University, aka Toudai) to fulfill a dream... and a promise. To get there, and to avoid the distraction of her parent being remarried, she moves to the hot springs resort-turned-girls dormitory Hinata-Sou.

Very beautiful, incredibly smart, and wonderfully sweet, but terribly near-sighted and horrendously short-tempered, she soon encounters the new would-be manager Urashima Keitaro, but she protests the idea of having such a "pervert" being in close contact with her. Though she actually cares for Keitaro a lot, when she isn't sending him flying into stratosphere with her notorious running punches when he accidentally sees more of her than he should.

She often wears thick glasses, sweaters, and braids when going to cram school to deter attention from guys.
